What Is Integrative Veterinary Medicine?

Integrative veterinary medicine combines the best of conventional and complementary care. Rather than replacing traditional diagnostics or treatment, these therapies work alongside them to support healing, manage chronic conditions, reduce pain, and improve quality of life. Every treatment plan we recommend is grounded in your pet’s individual history, diagnosis, and goals.

Our Integrative & Holistic Services

Acupuncture

Veterinary acupuncture uses fine needles placed at specific points on the body to stimulate the nervous system, improve circulation, and support the body’s natural healing response. It is commonly used for pain management, musculoskeletal conditions, neurological issues, and chronic disease support. Our team has completed formal training in veterinary acupuncture and will assess whether your pet is a good candidate during an initial consultation.

Class IV Therapeutic Laser

Class IV laser therapy delivers targeted light energy deep into tissue to reduce inflammation, relieve pain, and accelerate healing. It is non-invasive, well-tolerated by most pets, and typically requires no sedation. We use therapeutic laser to support recovery from injury or surgery, manage arthritis, and treat soft tissue conditions. Treatment sessions are brief, and many pets show improvement within a short course of therapy.

Herbal Medicine

Plant-based supplements can support a wide range of health concerns, including digestive health, immune function, skin and coat conditions, and chronic disease management. We discuss herbal options only when appropriate for your pet’s specific condition and only in formulations that are safe alongside any conventional medications they may be receiving.

Nutritional Therapy

Nutrition is one of the most direct levers we have for influencing your pet’s health. We offer personalized dietary guidance to address conditions such as obesity, food sensitivities, chronic gastrointestinal disease, and age-related changes. Recommendations are based on your pet’s clinical picture, not a one-size-fits-all approach.

Who Is a Good Candidate for Integrative Care?

Pets dealing with any of the following may benefit from one or more of our integrative services:

  • Arthritis or joint pain
  • Post-surgical recovery
  • Neurological conditions
  • Chronic disease (kidney disease, diabetes, IBD, and others)
  • Weight management challenges
  • Ongoing skin or digestive issues
  • Age-related changes in mobility or quality of life

If you’re unsure whether your pet would benefit, we’re happy to discuss it during a regular appointment or a dedicated consultation.

What to Expect

Your first integrative care visit starts with a thorough review of your pet’s health history, current medications, and any prior diagnostics. From there, we’ll discuss which therapies may be appropriate, what a realistic treatment course looks like, and how we’ll track progress over time. Follow-up visits allow us to adjust the plan based on how your pet responds.

Why Choose Moonlight Veterinary Center?

  • Our veterinarians have completed formal training in the modalities we offer, including acupuncture and therapeutic laser.
  • We do not recommend complementary therapies as a substitute for appropriate diagnostics or conventional treatment.
  • We communicate transparently about what the evidence supports and where there is uncertainty.
  • Our evening and weekend hours make it easier to fit care into your schedule.
